Genesis Day program at Quinn Memorial
The Rev. Donus Crawford Jr. of Pittsburgh, former pastor of Quinn Memorial AME Church in Steubenville, will be the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service at Quinn at its Genesis Day program.
The Genesis Day program stems from the 12 tribes of Israel.
Tribe leaders are Jacqueline Gibson, Ilana Chester, Patricia Fletcher, Soundra Palmer, George and Dolores Young, Sylvia Thompson, John Petteway, Renee Thompson, Genevieve Murray and Mattie Patterson.
Soundra Palmer is chairperson, and Eloise Curenton is co-chairperson.
The observance also is an annual family and friends day in which former Quinn members and the community are invited to participate.
Participating in the morning service will be Palmer, presiding and scripture reader; Gibson, call to worship; the Rev. Charles Simpson, prayer and holy communion; Betty Simpson, Decalogue; Sylvia Thompson, Genesis Day overview and announcements and recognition of visitors. Patricia Fletcher will introduce the speaker, Patterson will lift the offering and Dolores Young will lead the affirmation of faith.
The senior choir will provide music under the director of Delores Wiggins, minister of music.
A fellowship dinner will follow the service and then an auction of gift bags and various items – everything from table arrangements, baby items and beauty supplies to Ohio State favorites and crystal bowls. John Butler is kitchen chair.
The Genesis Day celebration continues at 3:30 p.m. with singing, featuring the Singing Nuns from Second Baptist Church, soloist Cynthia Smith and Wilbur Knight and ending with a concert by the senior choir.
Curenton will serve as mistress of ceremonies.
