Legion Auxiliary eyes dinner
WEIRTON – The American Legion Post 10 Auxiliary held the monthly meeting Oct. 21 at the post hall on Pennsylvania Avenue.
President Shirley Brecht called the meeting to order, led members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and Preamble of the American Legion Auxiliary Constitution and presided over the business session.
Chaplain Marcy Spano gave the invocation. Secretary Clara Robinson called roll and read the September meeting’s minutes, which were approved as read. Treasurer Gloria Jerrel gave the financial report, which was approved as read and filed for audit.
The Veterans Day dinner will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. Robinson will obtain a list of veterans from area nursing homes for Christmas. Historian Joan Spano will send cards to the veterans.
Chaplain Marcy Spano sent get-well cards to Joan Spano, Bob Williams, Wanda Perrone and Milton Fabianich and a bouquet of flowers to Theresa Bongiovagnni.
Members were asked to bring in plastic bags for the Paris Presbyterian Church’s project to make sleeping mats for the homeless. The group will be donating gift cards to those in need and collecting items for veterans in nursing homes. The group also made a donation to the Mozingo family, who lost their daughter and home recently.
The auxiliary will hold the annual Christmas party at 6 p.m. Dec. 3.
Spano led the closing prayer, and Brecht adjourned the meeting.
The group will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 18.
