Bethany Women have busy fall

BETHANY – The Bethany Woman’s Club, General Federation of Women’s Clubs of West Virginia member organization, met Nov. 18 at Bethany Church, with Helen Moren, president presiding.

Reports were heard from Secretary Beverly Chambers and Treasurer Judy Pyle. Moren reported on the spaghetti dinner held for veterans, noting 11 veterans attended.

Members also are sewing and filling stockings for Boatsie’s Boxes and two quilts. In observance of Domestic Violence Month, socks were donated to the Wheeling Young Women’s Christian Association, cards were sent to the state veterans home in Barboursville and commissary coupons were sent for service personnel.

Soup labels, box tops and pop tabs were collected for Wellsburg Middle School, an afterschool program and the Ronald McDonald House.

Supplies were shipped to Operation Smile and Little Dresses for Africa. Donations were made to the Pearl Buck Foundation, 1734 Society for GFWC Headquarters, GFWC-WV scholarship and endowment funds, Camp Kno Koma, a camp for young children with diabetes; UNICEF and Week of Compassion.

The group purchased Christmas lights in memory of Margaret Conner and Nancy Huff for the Anna Jarvis Memorial Christmas Tree.

The group’s Christmas dinner will be held Dec. 16, with former Kiwanis members and others as guests.
