Chamber Christmas dinner set
FOLLANSBEE – The Follansbee Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Christmas dinner at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at St. Francis Centre.
The chamber will recognize former Follansbee city clerk and councilman Jim Mirasola as Citizen of the Year as well as several others for their service to the community.
The cost is $25 for non-members. Reservations should be made by calling (304) 527-3801 no later than Wednesday.
Craft class offered Thursday
WELLSBURG – The Brooke County CEOS Tent Club will hold a craft class at the Brooke County Public Library at 1 p.m. Thursday.
The club will teach participants to make a hanging snowman. Participants should bring a hot glue gun, glue sticks and an iron. The library will supply the other materials.

WELLSBURG – Nora Bell will present a holiday cooking class at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Brooke County Public Library.

Tips for Tots event Wednesday
WEIRTON – The Eat ‘n Park restaurant in Weirton will be holding its annual Tips for Tots event as part of the restaurant’s 35th-annual Caring for Kids campaign.
All tips collected from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday will go to the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital and other area children’s hospitals.
Special guest celebrity servers invited to assist the restaurant’s employees include elected officials, police officers, firefighters, media personalities and educators.
There also will be a variety of other activities, including entertainment and the chance to win prizes.
Restaurant helps Special Olympics
WEIRTON – Fifteen percent of sales from meals sold at the Weirton Bob Evans restaurant from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday will go to Brooke County Special Olympics.
Supporters must present fliers available at the Brooke County Library in Wellsburg, the Follansbee branch library or Traubert’s Pharmacy. Fliers also are available by calling (304) 737-1376.
Pet supplies collected for shelter
WELLSBURG – The Brooke County Public Library and Follansbee Branch Library will be collecting assorted pet supplies, including food, toys and new or used towels and blankets, this month for dogs and cats at the Brooke County Animal Shelter.
Everyone also is invited to join the library’s staff and volunteers in making presents for the animals at 5 p.m. Dec. 19 at the library.

Sorority aids autism program
BETHANY – On Nov. 15, members of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority at Bethany College participated in National Philanthropy Day by hosting a Band Together for Autism Speaks initiative.
The chapter set up informational tables in several locations on campus throughout the day and sold blue Autism Speaks wristbands for $1 each, raising more than $150 for their national charity.
Bethany women have busy fall
BETHANY – The GFWC-WV Bethany Woman’s Club met Nov. 18 at Bethany Church, with Helen Moren, president presiding.
Reports were heard from Secretary Beverly Chambers and Treasurer Judy Pyle. Moren reported on the spaghetti dinner held for veterans, noting 11 veterans attended.
Members also are sewing and filling stockings for Boatsie’s Boxes and two quilts. In observance of Domestic Violence Month, socks were donated to the Wheeling YWCA, cards were sent to the state veterans home in Barboursville, and commissary coupons were sent for service personnel.
Soup labels, Box Tops and pop tabs were collected for Wellsburg Middle School, an afterschool program and the Ronald McDonald House.
Supplies were shipped to Operation Smile and Little Dresses for Africa. Donations were made to the Pearl Buck Foundation, 1734 Society for GFWC Headquarters, GFWC-WV scholarship and endowment funds, Camp Kno Koma, a camp for young children with diabetes, UNICEF and Week of Compassion.
The group purchased Christmas lights in memory of Margaret Conner and Nancy Huff for the Anna Jarvis Memorial Christmas Tree.
The group’s Christmas dinner will be held Dec. 16, with former Kiwanis members and others as guests.
BCFDW plan Christmas party
WELLSBURG – The Brooke County Federation of Democratic Women will be having their annual Christmas party and induction of newly elected officers on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Crooked Dock in Wellsburg.
Everyone is asked to bring canned goods to donate to a local charity.
