Cantata Dec. 29

at Hopewell UMC

The Hopewell United Methodist Church, located on Jefferson County Road 16, will host the South Bellaire United Methodist Church choir’s presentation of a Christmas cantata on Dec. 29, beginning at 6 p.m.

A time of fellowship will follow.

St. Agnes CWC

holds party

The Woman’s Club of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mingo Junction held its annual Christmas dinner-dance on Dec. 3 in the church hall with President Joanne Raha welcoming those in attendance.

A thank-you was extended to Barbara Crugnale for the hall decorating and handling of the arrangements and to those who had donated door prizes.

Table prizes were given to a guest at each table. All in attendance received a snowman candy cane favor.

The Rev. James Dunfee, pastor of St. Agnes, gave the invocation and offered remarks. Gifts were presented to Dunfee, Vickie Bish and Chris Bracone, church employees.

Stephen Tancheck and Jeannette Yanssens were crowned king and queen for the evening, receiving a Santa Hat crown.

Disc jockey Rich Grimm provided the entertainment for the evening, playing songs requested by the 96 guests. The food was catered by Bonomo Catering.

Tancek won the 50-50 drawing.

The CWC’s first meeting of 2014 will be held Jan. 28.

Cantata Sunday

at Finley UMC

Finley United Methodist Church at 958 Lincoln Ave., Steubenville, will be presenting “The Night before Christmas” cantata on Sunday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The presentation by the church choir is a musical celebration of the Christmas story.

Christmas concert

at Brentwood UMC

A Christmas concert will be held at Brentwood United Methodist Church, 129 Stephens St., Wintersville, at the Sunday service beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Featured singers will be Doc Roe and Leslie Thermes and others from the church.

The public is invited to attend.

Gospel concert

set for Sunday

The Marland Heights Community Church, located at 3900 Brightway, Weirton, will host a live gospel concert featuring Greg Neavin and his accapella quartet at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

There also will be a performance at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church at 334 Cedar Ave., Steubenville.

Sugar Grove choir

set to perform

The choir of Sugar Grove United Methodist Church will present the evening service in song on Sunday, beginning at 7 p.m.

The church is located at the top of the hill, off state Route 152 from Empire on county Road 68.

Wellsburg church

to host concert

The First Presbyterian Church of Wellsburg at Ninth and Charles streets will hold a free Christmas concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The program will includes Christmas carols and classic and modern choral works. Refreshments will be served after the program.

Gifts, cards given

by youth ministry

The Starkdale Presbyterian Church Youth Ministry students purchased and wrapped 58 gifts and gave Christmas cards to each of the residents at Dixon Nursing Home in Wintersville on Dec. 13.

Weirton churches holding cantatas, special services

The combined Christ Untied Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church of Weirton choirs will present the Christmas cantata “Bethlehem Morning,” created by Russell Mauldin and Sue C. Smith, at 9:15 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church and 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church Sunday.

Tom Dohnal is choir director and accompanist for both choirs.

Christ United Methodist Church will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, and First United Methodist Church will hold a candlelight service at 11 p.m. Tuesday.
