MLK illustration contest announced
EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – The East Liverpool-Wellsville National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Kent State University East Liverpool Campus announce an illustration contest to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr.
Illustrations will draw inspiration from Coretta Scott King/American Library Association Award-winning or -honored books.
The Coretta Scott King Awards are given to African-American authors whose work makes a contribution to peace and justice and demonstrates an awareness of African-American history.
The awards commemorate the memory of King and his wife Coretta Scott King for continuing work toward peace and justice.
Coretta Scott King Award books are available in local libraries. Books are available for readers from early childhood through high school.
There are three categories, including kindergarten through second grade, third through fifth grade and sixth through eighth grade.
There also will be a contest for the best MLK March poster, which can be entered by anyone participating in a Martin Luther King Day March.
The deadline for entries is Jan. 10.
They should be delivered to Patti Swartz, in care of Kent State University East Liverpool Campus, 400 E. Fourth St., East Liverpool, OH 43920.
Winners will be announced at the Wellsville Martin Luther King celebration Jan. 20.
