Concert at Brilliant Christian Church

The Brilliant Christian Church, located at 323 High St., Brilliant, will host a musical concert by “Jack Shelton and 64 to Grayson” on Sunday, beginning at 7 p.m.

“With a unique sound that ranges from the classic harmonies of Alabama and the young sounds of Luke Bryan to the laidback feel of Kenny Chesney and the meaningful messages of Randy Travis, 64 to Grayson is definitely not tacked down to any particular country feel,” a news release notes. “Tagged under the genre of alternative country, the band is led by Zack Shelton of Zanesville, son of gospel musician Thomas Shelton and a recent graduate of Kentucky Christian University.

The concert is open to the public. A love offering for the band will be taken. For information, call (740) 598-4841 or (740) 424-3689.

‘Chili Bowl’ set for Sunday

The Christ United Methodist Church will hold its first “Chili Bowl” at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the fellowship hall located at 3598 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton.

Those attending may make a free-will donation to vote for their favorite chili. The chili receiving the highest donation will be the winner and awarded a traveling trophy.

Hot dogs and chips also will be served.

Kum Joyne Us elects officers

The Kum Joyne Us Class of Kolmont Church elected officers to one-year terms at its Jan. 9 meeting held in the fellowship hall.

Shirley McCartney will remain president. Other leaders are: vice president, Sara Peeler; secretary, Sharlene Wade; treasurer, Alice Brandon; project fund, Ruby Grimes; and card secretary, Peeler.

Brandon and Wade served as hostesses at the meeting where Maureen Black gave the blessing for the covered-dish dinner. McCartney presided, and Brandon led devotions on “God’s Vessels,” noting that, “As God’s vessels, we have all been fashioned for his service.” Wade read scripture, including John 7:37-38 and Galatians 6:2.

Prayer requests were addressed.

The seven members and one guest in attendance responded to roll call with a scripture reading.

Reports were given by Wade, Lora Grimes and Peeler, who will report on the mother/daughter banquet at the next meeting, which will be held Feb. 7 with McCartney and Peeler serving as hostesses.

Peeler held the monthly auction.

The group’s Christmas party, it was noted, was held Dec. 16 with 30 attending. Black was in charge of the program with the theme “Everlasting Light.” She read “What Christmas Means to Me” by Helen Stiener Rice. Deanna Price sang “O” Little Town of Bethlehem.” Ruby Grimes read “Your Christmas Gift.”

Stories about family Christmas traditions were shared. A gift exchange was held, and Ruth Ann Fugett closed the evening with prayer.
