Health department has flu shots
NEW CUMBERLAND – The Hancock County Health Department still has a limited amount of flu vaccines available.
Flu shots are administered from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays at the health department. The department accepts most insurances, including Medicare, and the cost of the shot is $20 for those without insurance.
“Flu season has hit our communities already this January,” said Michelle Truax, department nursing supervisor. “It attacks all ages. While hand washing and proper cough/sneezing etiquette are good preventions, the best defense against the flu is to get the shot. “
The Centers for Disease Control recommend that everyone 6 months of age and older get the flu vaccine.
“The Health Department has vaccines available for infants to senior citizens,” said Truax. “It is also highly recommended that pregnant women get a flu shot. We have those available also.”
