Lions hold January meeting

NEW CUMBERLAND – President Betsy Wells called the New Cumberland Lions Club Jan. 14 meeting to order, followed by Lion Joyce Young giving the invocation and Lion Cole Young leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

The previous two meeting’s minutes were read, corrected and approved. The treasurer’s report was accepted and filed for audit.

Those lions who held with the Swaney Memorial Library’s Breakfast with Santa were thanked.

Volunteers to bake cookies for the Feb. 2 Hall of Fame ceremony were requested. Cookies can be dropped off the night before or that morning at the Christian Church. Laura Greathouse, Joe Graham and T.J. Greenwood will be inducted.

Wells presented Lion Charlie Mitchell with a perfect attendance pin. Lion Russ Flanigan complimented the cleanliness and organization of the recycling paper shed.

The District 29-L Conference will be held March 14-15 at the Blennerhasset Hotel in Parkersburg. Rooms are discounted until Feb. 15, and the registration deadline is March 7.

Quilt drawing tickets are available. The drawing will be held at the state convention April 26.

The club has received dictionaries to be distributed to the New Manchester Elementary School third-graders. Lion Anna Raines noted a date needs to be set. Lion John Edwards said Flag Day will be at 1 p.m. March 7 at New Manchester Elementary School.

The next regular meeting will be Jan. 28 at the New Cumberland City Building.
