Marine Corps Club Auxiliary installs officers

The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary held its monthly meeting Jan. 13 at the Serbian American Cultural Center in Weirton with President Joan Spano presiding.

Chaplain Mary Ann Smith gave the invocation and led prayers.

Maxine Ragan led in opening exercises.

Marcy Spano read thank-you letters from service members in Afghanistan who received Christmas stockings and cards from the auxiliary, Judy Hucik of Florida and Sammie and Karen Tate of New Cumberland. The auxiliary also received acknowledgments for items sent to Shannon Sweeny, stationed in North Carolina; Don and Kay Toothman; and the Barboursville Veterans Home.

Reports were given by Treasurer Maxine Ragan and Sunshine Chair Mary Ann Elliott and Historian Marcy Spano, who distributed pictures taken at the auxiliary Christmas party Dec. 17.

Vice President Darlene Kemp reported the Toys for Tots drive didn’t do as well as hoped. Shirley Brecht reported on the expenses for the Christmas party.

Joan Spano sent five birthday cards, 16 calendars and 90 mini flashlights to the veterans home.

Shirley Brecht won the 50/50, which she donated back to the club.

The 2014-2015 officers were installed. They include President Joan Spano, Vice President Kemp, Second Vice President Ragan, Secretary Lyons, Treasurer Brecht, Chaplain Smith, Sunshine Chair Mary Ann Elliott, Historian Marcy Spano and Sergeant-at-Arms Leroy Bee.

Wayne Kemp is the auxiliary’s 2014 adopted veteran, and the group presented him with a wallet with the Marine emblem, and Joan Spano gave him a Marine nut cracker.

The following host and hostess schedule was adopted: Marcy Spano, March; Shirley Brecht, April; Joan Spano, May; LaVonne Balint, June; Mary Ann Smith, July; Jo-Ann Johns and Mary Ann Elliott, August; Leroy Bee, September; Maxine Ragan, October; and Carol Lyons, November.
