Corps Club eyes picnic

WEIRTON – The Tri-State Marine Corps Club met Feb. 10 at the Serbian American Cultural Center.

In spite of the bad weather, 28 members were in attendance.

The annual picnic was discussed, and it is tentatively planned for Aug. 3 at the park near the Fire Hall in New Cumberland. This event includes food, a Chinese auction, children’s games and a drawing.

Members voted to donate $100 to Young Marine Austin Loppe, who will be participating in the national event in Washington, D.C. in May. Austin lives in Mingo Junction and is a student at Indian Creek High School.

The design of the new Marine coin was approved and prices will be obtained for its mintage. It likely will be available by the end of the year.

It also was announced members and their guests are welcome to attend the Saturday morning breakfast get-togethers at the Weirton Ponderosa on Three Springs Drive. They begin at 9 a.m. and there is no cost for club members for the buffet, but non- members will be asked to pay.

Tickets are available for the gun drawing at $10 dollars per ticket with the drawing held on May 12.

The organization meets at 6:30 p.m. the second Monday of every month, and all Marine veterans are invited to attend. Any honorably discharged Marine or Navy Corpsman attached to a Marine unit are eligible to join, and there is no membership fee.
