Gum ordained as minister

WEIRTON – The Rev. Jarrett Gum was ordained by the Rev. Marlin R. Hawley, senior pastor, Jan. 26 at Mercy Baptist Church located at 3474 Pennsylvania Ave.

Gum was introduced by Church Board Chair Paul Pepper, who also is his grandfather.

Hawley read the ordination charge, including the command to set apart those who have shown a desire to serve God, those who have taken time and given their life to study and prepare to serve Him, and finally those who have proven themselves faithful over a period of time in service to Him. Hawley also presented Gum with his certificate of ordination.

Gum then gave the message “Visually Impaired.”

His family was introduced, including his wife, Erin, and their four children, Micah, Emma, Seth and Ashlyn.

After the morning worship service, a celebration dinner was held in the Fellowship Room for all those attending.

Gum is a Mercy Baptist Academy graduate and graduated with a double major in Bible and secondary education from The Crown College of the Bible in Powell, Tenn.
