Upper Ohio Valley United Way reaches 85 percent of goal

WHEELING – The United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley 2013-2014 campaign is approaching the 85 percent mark – or $647,900 of the campaign goal of $777,777.

Campaign Chair Jim Rock of Axiall and Vice Chair Kristie Barnett of WesBanco thanked the Campaign Cabinet for its efforts and encouraged the members and their volunteers to continue to work toward the goal.

Barnett noted the United Way, through its member agencies, reaches across the philanthropic range in providing needed services.

“Whether someone is concerned about children’s issues, those of health care or the elderly, the United Way helps fund them all,” she said.

Several of the campaign divisions have exceeded their goals: local business, chaired by Mark Maguire of WesBanco has reported $237,313, or 103 percent of its goal; special accounts, chaired by Stuart Bloch of Hazlett, Burt and Watson, has reported $72,218, or 103 percent of its goal.

The other division reports are: major firms, chaired by Dan Moyer of AEP, $185,791; public service, chaired by Jeffrey Knierim of West Liberty University, $47,585; professional, chaired by Bradley K. Shafer of Swartz Campbell and Daniel Young of Edward Jones, $22,655; community development, chaired by Dave Palmer of the City of Wheeling, $12,066; Brooke County, chaired by Mary K. DeGarmo, former educator, and Steven E. Roberts of Eagle Manufacturing, $18,168; incoming designations, $14,417; and special events, $37,684.
