Hospital retirees meeting

WEIRTON – The Weirton Hospital Retirees luncheon will be held at noon April 8 at Gio’s Restaurant located on Pennsylvania Avenue.

The December holiday party was canceled because of severe weather, and the group’s yearly donation to the Community Bread Basket was deferred until a later meeting. Jean Kovalan and Dorothy Means will take a “good-will” collection at the April meeting, which will be donated to the Bread Basket.

Sunshine Committee Chair Donna Karas and Membership Committee Chair Cathy Colbert resigned.

The 2014-2015 officers are President Joyce Barnhart, First Vice President Mary Orecchio, Second Vice President Corliss Brown, Treasurer Sandy Haspel and Secretary Josie Glauser. The committee chairs are as follows: Sunshine Chair Barbara Andrews, Membership co-chairs Corliss Brown and Sandy Haspel and Scholarship Chair Judy Tate. The Scholarship Committee includes Sandy Robbins, Sandy Haspel, Joyce Barnhart, Nancy Brown and Mary Ann Ralston. The committee will develop and implement fundraising for scholarships.

Tate and Wanda Champ will co-chair the sleeping bag project. Members are asked to continue to save materials for the sleeping bags, as the project will resume in the fall. The sundress project exceeded the goal of 100 dresses; the dresses were made from pillowcases donated as sleeping bag materials.

Kovalan and Means will co-chair ticket sales and collections. Linda Heilman will continue to give the invocation and reading at each meeting.

Membership will be notified by phone of meetings so they can make reservations. The Telephone Committee includes Brown, Elaine Capazzoli, Laverne Sutak, Ralston, Patty Hooper and Jean Duffy. Those who don’t receive a call should contact Barnhart at (304) 748-4657.

Membership dues of $10 are payable at the April meeting. Any Weirton Hospital retiree is invited to join. For information, contact Barnhart or Orecchio at (304) 797-7378.

The meeting dates include the birthday celebration June 10, end-of-summer meeting Aug. 12, fall celebration Oct. 14 and Christmas party Dec. 9.

Members are asked to submit ideas for speakers or entertainment.
