Three Score Seniors Club meets

WEIRTON – In the absence of President Marlene Hare, Barbara Purks called the February Three Score Seniors meeting to order, followed by Tony LaRosa giving the invocation and members reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and singing “God Bless America.”

Dennis Jones, Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center president, and Pam Makricosta, museum board member, spoke about the Festival of Nations set for March 15 at the Millsop Community Center located on Main Street.

Program Chair Brenda Edwards introduced Bud Simmons, who provided the evening’s entertainment by playing the dulcimer, guitar and singing.

Josie Elliott reported the Auditing Committee reviewed the books presented by Joan Villa and found all to be in order. Angie Mazur and Mary Ann DiFonzo also were members of the committee.

Membership Chair Nancy Smurda and Reservation Chair Vivian Weigel gave their reports; the secretary’s report was read and approved; and Treasurer Ida Haines gave the financial report, which was approved.

Sunshine Chair Winnie Kemp sent get-well cards to John Peterson, Santo Gubetti and Robert Deku. Kemp asked for a moment of silence in memory of recently deceased member Maggie Stewart. Members observed birthdays celebrated by Pat Evano, Kathy McCarrick and Mary Hvizdzak. Mary Ann Lammers and Minerva Gutwald sent thank-you cards to the group.

Tour Chair Regina Truax announced upcoming trips.

They include:

March 29, doo-wop concert, Capitol Theatre, Wheeling;

April 23, Pure Gold, Rivers Casino, Pittsburgh; and

May 9-10 Sight and Sound Theatre, Lancaster, Pa.

Regina Truax, Reg Dietz, Mary Tyson, Barbara Libengood and Ilse Pulice won door prizes. Jack Cummings and Sonny Marino awarded the 50/25/25 drawing to Tony LaRosa and Alma Wansack. Mary Ann Lammers and Mary Hvizdak won Undo’s dinners. Alma Wansack, Winnie Kemp and Chuck Elliott won gift cards.

LaRosa gave the benediction, and Purks adjourned the meeting.
