UOV Camera Club announces winners

WINTERSVILLE, Ohio – The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club has named the winners of the February competition.

The print winners for the topic of the month “Vintage” were Andy Tindor, first place; Sam Rees, second place; and Dave Rees, third place. In the open category, the winners included Melissa Bendle, first place; Sam Rees, second place; and Dave Rees, third place. The special effects winners were Dave Rees, first place; Angela McClain, second place; and Lindy Hilty, third place. The slide winners for the February competition for the topic “Vintage” included Claudia Norris, first place and Steve Whiting, second place. In the open category, the winners were Norris, first place and Whiting, second place. For special effects, the winners were Norris, first and Whiting, second.

Sam Rees presented the February workshop on contrast. He used his laptop computer and a digital projector to show examples of adjusting contrast. Rees demonstrated how to balance shadows and highlights using the Light Room and Adobe Photo Shop programs. Balance can be achieved by using a neutral density filter which can be attached to the camera lens. Filters can be purchased online.

President Whiting made suggestions for spring field trips. McClain mentioned club members were invited to participate in another astronomy lesson at the Faith Ranch in Jewett, Ohio. Vice President Debra Snider arranged a Feb. 15 field trip to a Wheeling Nailers morning practice at Wesbanco Arena, where members took photographs, followed by a lunch and visit to Wheeling Park Ice Rink for more photography and ice skating. Members later attended a Nailers hockey game. Members attending included Don and Debbie Snider, Steve and Judy Whiting, Barb and Barry Momyer, Dave and Sam Rees, Linda Hilty, Becky and Stephen Mihopulos, Ulisha Santiage and Oliver Stone.

The club’s exhibit continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through March 21 at the Summit Gallery located at 3393 Main St. Pictures are available for sale or to order.
