Annual rabies clinics set
The annual rabies clinics will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. May 24 at the Hancock County Animal Shelter located on Gas Valley Road, New Manchester, and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 14 at the Weirton City Building parking lot located on Cove Road.
Dogs must be on a leash, and cats must be in a pet carrier.
Rabies shots are $8, licenses are $3, kennel licenses are $10 and vicious dog licenses are $10.
West Virginia law requires all dogs 6 months or older be licensed and vaccinated against rabies.
Anyone with a dog or cat must have them vaccinated against rabies and have the animal boostered after a year and every three years thereafter.
Failure to vaccinate a dog or cat can result in a fine of $50 per animal.
Failure to license a dog can result in a fine of $100 per dog. Fines will be assessed in addition to court fees.
Dr. Mark Ferris is the sponsoring veterinarian. The Hancock County Commission, Hancock county Dog Warden Department, Hancock County Assessor’s Office, Hilltop Animal Hospital and Hancock County Animal Shelter are sponsoring the clinic.
