VFD Fish fry to open

Phyllis Aria, Colliers Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary president, announced the weekly fish fry, sponsored by the group, will open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 9 and run every Friday until the fall. The frys will be held at the fish fry house next to the fire hall. Many old favorites will be on the menu and take-out will be available by calling (304) 748-8440.

Top sellers announced

Darlene Brennan of the Colliers Parent-Teacher Association announced the fundraiser top-sellers were Chase Felouzis, Ethan Willey, Madison Burge, Sarah Tharp, Breanna Staley, Emma Jackson, Jasmine Gregory, Ruari Stoll, Jason Long, Austin Robinson and Ian Robinson.

PTA observes Founder’s Day

The Colliers Parent-Teacher Association honored past presidents in observance of Founder’s Day at a recent meeting. Honorees included Mildred Richter, Virginia McMahon, Carol Cain and President Tawnya Dennis. Stephanie Bubeck directed the program.

Committee reports were given. Jodi Fabian reported the school collected more than 1,200 Box Tops and labels; Darlene Brennan of Ways and Means reported on the flower sale; Chrissy Carbasho gave a homeroom parents report; and LaDonna Warrick, Dana Stoll and Jodi Fabian were appointed to the Nominating Committee.

Principal Jo-Ellen Goodall reported Zena Trimmer is the new first-grade teacher and the online writing assessment and West Virginia Educational Standards Test 2 will take the entire month of May.

Dana Stoll reported Math Field Day honorees were Joshua McEvoy, Erin Lucas, Chesney Keenan and Savannah Turner-Davis.

Alumni to sponsor flea market

The Colliers Alumni and Friends Association recently met and made plans to sponsor a flea market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10 at the Colliers Firemen’s Field and Pavilion. Anyone with crafts, flea market items and bake sales may rent a table for $15 for under the pavilion or $10 for the field. To reserve a space, contact Darlene Brennan at (304) 374-7222.

The alumni will sell refreshments. The raindate will be May 17.

The group will present scholarships at Brooke High School’s awards night.

The next meeting will be held May 3 at Chico’s Restaurant and officer elections will be held.

Cultural arts winners announced

The Colliers Primary School cultural arts contest winners were announced. The winners are as follows: Savannah Turner-Davis, Ruari Stoll, Jacob Vojvodich, Dominick Carbasho, Saphira Dennis, Madison Brown, Chase Felouzis, Aaron Peveich, Giana Montesano, Emma Fabian, Jazmyn Carbasho, Abigail Maxwell, Angelina Montesano, Trevor Maxwell and Adam Peveich.

The theme was “Believe, Dream and Inspire,” and the Colliers Rebekah Lodge judged the contest.

Trappers cancel summer event

The Northern Panhandle Trappers Association recently met at the Colliers Fire Hall with President Jack Cain presiding.

The group canceled their annual summer get-together and will just have a Christmas party in December.

Officer elections will be held at the May 7 meeting.
