Winning but giving back

After being invited to participate in the fourth-annual Campbell-Dickinson Bike Run Walk in March, students at the Jefferson County Christian School stepped into action. The high school French Club took on the project and spread the word to all parents and students schoolwide about joining Team JCCS to raise money for the T.E.A.R. fund at the Tony Teramana Cancer Center, according to a school spokesperson. Team JCCS consisted of 58 participants and raised $800, taking second place among area high schools in terms of participants. The students chose to donate the $500 second-place prize locally to the T.E.A.R. fund, AIM Women’s Center and internationally to Doctors Without Borders and to Afne, an Ethiopian orphan fund). Ana McGurn, French Club adviser and a cancer survivor, said of the event, “Some ran, some biked and others walked, but everyone felt blessed to be a part of an event that gives hope and help to those who are going through cancer treatments.”
