Akis to perform at Carnegie Hall

NEW YORK – Yoanna Akis of Weirton will perform the New York City premiere of Christopher Rouse’s “Requiem” with the Westminster Symphonic Choir and the New York Philharmonic conducted by Alan Gilbert on Monday at Carnegie Hall.

The concert will also be broadcast live on WQXR-FM and online at www.wqxr.org.

Akis is a student at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, N.J., where she is a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir. Recognized as one of the world’s leading choral ensembles, the choir has sung more than 350 performances with the New York Philharmonic alone.

The ensemble’s 2013-2014 season included performances of works by Beethoven with The Philadelphia Orchestra; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra; Rachmaninoff’s “The Bells” with The Philadelphia Orchestra; and Handel’s “Messiah” with the New York Philharmonic.
