Historians to hold meeting
AVELLA – The A.D. White Research Society will host “A Country Gathering” at 11 a.m. May 17 at Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Museum of Rural Life Visitor Center located at 401 Meadowcroft Road.
Don Nixon, Washington’s Covenant Church youth director, will speak on “The Great Awakening,” a religious revival that swept western Pennsylvania in 1800, at 11:30 a.m.
An informal discussion by area historical and genealogical society and museum representatives will follow at 12:45 p.m. Any Tri-State Area group or individual interested is encouraged to attend and participate. The discussion’s purpose is groups sharing information and lists of holding that will benefit researchers.
“Since all are striving toward a common goal, that of preserving and making available to the public the vast store of history prevalent in the local area, this purpose can best be served by close fellowship,” said Kathryn Slasor of the A.D. White Society.
Admission to A.D. White Society-sponsored activities is free. A reduced rate will be charged to those who want to tour Meadowcroft. The St. Michael’s Catholic Church women will have food available. Vendors with items of historical interest, authors with books on local history and those wanting to display historical items or antiques are welcome to do so on a donation basis.
