Weir Library announces programs
WEIRTON – The Mary H. Weir Public Library has announced upcoming programs at the library located at 3442 Main St.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 7, “Mystery and Suspense – So What’s the Difference?” and “Solving the Mystery of How to Market Your Book.” Local author Cindy McDonald presents.
“Fizz, Boom, Read!” summer reading program. The program will include science experiments. Preschoolers, aged 3 to 5, will meet from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesdays; kindergarteners through second-graders, age 6 to 8, will meet from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays; third- through fifth-graders, age 9-11, will meet from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursdays; and sixth-graders and older will meet from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays. 10 a.m. to noon June 16, cereal box collages with artist Michael Albert of New York. To register for the event, call the library at (304) 797-8510. The library also is collecting empty cereal and cracker boxes for the event.
1 p.m. to 3 p.m. July 8, 3-D art with Mark Kistler. Kistler has written several books on drawing. Those attending should bring pencils, paper or a tablet. For information, visit www.markkistler.com. To register, call the library at (304) 797-8510.
Library staff will be helping local artists with disabilities submit 2-D artworks to the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services’ 2014 Diversifying Perspectives Art Contest and Exhibition. Those entering must be 18 or older, disabled and a West Virginia resident. Artwork can include painting, print-making, drawing, photography, mixed media and crafts. The deadline is June 20.
July 23, Teddy Bear Tea. More details will be announces as they become available.
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5, a pony, George the Boss, will visit the library and an animal care demonstration will be given. Those wanting to take photos with George are asked to bring their own camera.
