The Guglielmo Scholarship Foundation was established four years ago by Gino Guglielmo to give back to the community.

The foundation’s motto is “aspire, achieve, accomplish.” To date, the foundation has awarded $16,000 in scholarships.

This year, the foundation awarded Ontasia L. Petteway a $1,000 scholarship. Petteway will receive $1,000 each year until graduation as long as her grade point average remains above 3.0. She is a Weir High School student and plans to attend West Liberty University and study accounting. Petteway noted accounting is a field needed in a variety of businesses. She would like to work at a Fortune 500 company and plans to “pay it forward” by establishing a scholarship for graduates going into accounting.

The foundation’s largest fundraising event, Wine in the Woods, will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 8 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds located on Kings Creek Road. The event includes live entertainment, more than 20 wine- and beer-makers, more than 30 crafters, a Chinese auction and food. Tickets are $10.

Proceeds benefit the foundation.

The foundation joined the Weirton Chamber of Commerce based on the chamber’s pay it forward philosophy and the low-cost networking and promotion.

For information on the foundation, contact Darla Guglielmo at (304) 723-7386.
