Legion auxiliary holds meeting

WEIRTON – The American Legion Post 10 Auxiliary met June 16 at the post located on Pennsylvania Avenue, with President Shirley Brecht calling the meeting to order and presiding over the business session.

Chaplain Marcy Spano gave the invocation, and Brecht led members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and American Legion Auxiliary Constitution’s preamble.

Secretary Clara Robinson called roll and read the May meeting’s minutes, which were approved as read. Treasurer Gloria Jerrel gave the financial report, which was approved as read and filed for audit. Robinson and Jerrel are on the Girls State Committee, which sent five local girls to Rhododendron Girls State.

Historian Joan Spano distributed pictures and displayed two photo albums.

It was reported the bakeless bake sale was successful; the group participated in a successful Last Man’s Club dinner; and Robinson placed the Gold Star Mothers wreath at the city Memorial Day service, and, following the service, the auxiliary held a reception at the post.

The group is assembling candy bags for the city Fourth of July parade. The legion picnic will be held Aug. 10 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds located on Kings Creek Road. The event will include a drawing.

Marcy Spano sent get-well cards to Pat Folden, Susan Donahue and Chris Barker.

The group will hold an officers’ meeting in July. Folden and Joan Spano will serve refreshments.

Marcy Spano gave the closing prayer and Brecht adjourned the meeting.

The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. July 21 at the post.
