Sorority awards scholarship

WEIRTON – The Fidelis Gamma International Honorary Retired Teachers’ Sorority of Alpha Delta Kappa met June 5 at William’s Country Club.

President Carolyn Allison lit the memory candle for those who were unable to attend.

Allison welcomed Nancy Zachewicz, who is visiting from New Bern, N.C. Patty McCullough read the poems “A Tribute to Fathers” and “Those Rotten Kids” and led a prayer.

Pat Accettolo presented the Betty M. Shaw Scholarship to Cindy Wells of Brooke High School. Cindy Wells, joined by her mother Beverly Wells, accepted the scholarship and read a portion of her essay.

Members read inspirational poems. Elaine McClung read “Your Adventure,” Elaine Ferrari read “The Time You Spent,” and JoAnn Kerr read “Bright Future.”

Allison called the business meeting to order and presenting Past President Liz Pugh with a gift and Past President’s pin.

Janet Benzo read the minutes, and Martha Everly gave the treasurer’s report. Carol Hendon read a thank-you card from Cindy Wells, and Ruth Fuller informed the group of the upcoming Leadership Conference in August at Flatwoods. Jerry DeFilippo reminded members to bring in items to be donated. Janet Benzo shared information about the By-Laws.

DeFilippo installed McCullough as chaplain.

Fidelis Gamma will host the Tri-Chapter Christmas Party in December with Carol Hendon as chair.

Liz Pugh was hostess.

The next meeting will be July 3, and members are encouraged to wear red, white and blue.
