WVU offers summer art academy

MORGANTOWN – The West Virginia University Extension Service and WVU College of Creative Arts will hold the first Mountaineer Summer Drawing Academy, for youth ages 14 to 17, at the university, July 20-26.

The cost of the camp is $400, but a $175 scholarship is available for those who meet the pre-registration postmark deadline of June 13.

Campers will participate in workshops designed to hone their artistic skills. There will guest speakers and field trips with landscapes and natural settings intended to inspire artistic exploration.

In addition to the registration form, each applicant must submit a letter of recommendation from an art teacher or county extension agent and portfolio with eight to 12 of their best works from the past three years. They can be any form of media, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, photographs or sketches.

The art won’t be returned.
