Area 4-H’ers medal at invitational

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Frazier-Simplex 4-H Rifle Club members representing Pennsylvania at the 2014 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational recently in Grand Island, Neb., earned gold, silver and bronze medals.

There were 504 4-H members participating in nine events, including air rifle, air pistol, archery recurve and compound bow, hunting skills, shotgun, muzzle-loader and small-bore pistol and rifle.

Nine Pennsylvanians participated in he air pistol, archery, air rifle and small-bore rifle events.

Frazier-Simplex club members won medals in three events.

Morgan Duerr, a Weirton Madonna High School student, received a silver medal in the silhouette competition with 24 hits. She also placed 11th in the CMP rapid and slow fire event and fourth in the NRA 3 position event. She won silver overall, missing gold by only .003 points.

Sylvia Dreistadt, an Avella High School graduate and University of Pittsburgh student, won the bronze medal among 60 4-H members competing in the air pistol silhouette competition by scoring 31 hits on 40 targets at her third invitational. Dreistadt previously competed in the small-bore rifle and air rifle events.

Ashlee Hobgood, a Trinity High School Academy student, received 18th place overall. Thomas Welch, a Mohawk High School student, won a gold medal in the small-bore rifle events.
