Greater Weirton Senior Center planning dance

WEIRTON – The Greater Weirton Senior Citizens Center will hold a dance Aug. 7 at the center located at 3425 Main St.

Hank Vincent and the Stone Street Station will perform. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the cost is $5.

Carriage Inn staff will provide door prizes for bingo at 10 a.m. Friday and Aug. 15.

Bingo is held Friday nights. The doors open at 5 p.m., early bird starts at 6:30 p.m., and regular games begin at 7 p.m. The event includes drawings, lucky ball, food, end-of-the-month door prizes and a weekly drawing for the first 50 people to arrive. Games include get-even and winner-take-all. Packets are $25.

An indoor rummage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Aug. 8 at the center. Anyone wanting to make a donation can drop it off at the senior center.

Dime bingo will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Mondays in August. Coffee and cookies will be available.

Fun nights are held until 8 p.m. Tuesdays, and activities include pool, chess, cards, puzzles and line dancing.

Brightwood Center staff will give a presentation on controlling blood pressure and will take blood pressure readings at 9 a.m. Aug. 12. Refreshments will be available.

A corn toss will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 13.

Better Hearing will be available at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 13 and 27.

Doug Finton of Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home will give a presentation on funeral planning and costs at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 14. Seeing Hand will give free glaucoma testing from noon to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 14.

The veterans’ resource group, Helping Heroes, will be available from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 20. They provide support services and resources to homeless and near-homeless veterans to help them transition to self-sufficiency. Veterans in need of assistance or answers are welcome to meet with a counselor.

Weirton Medical Center staff will give a presentation on common health screenings and recommended adult immunizations Aug. 21.

The Harmony Brothers will perform at 5 p.m. Aug. 21. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the donation is $5.

Health South representatives will give a presentation on stroke prevention and rehabilitation at 9 a.m. Aug. 22.

A bake sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m Aug. 29. Volunteer bakers are needed.

A King and Queen card party will be held Aug. 31. The event will include a lunch, table prizes, door prizes, 50/50 drawing and Chinese auction. The cost is $8.

9 a.m., low-impact aerobics; and noon, dime bingo, Mondays.

10 a.m., Preventicare exercises; 10:30 a.m. bridge; 4 p.m., chess, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., line dancing; and 5 p.m., euchre or 500 cards, Tuesdays.

9 a.m., low-impact aerobics; and 12:30 p.m., pool tournament, Wednesdays.

10 a.m., Preventicare exercises; and noon, euchre tournament, Thursdays.

9 a.m., low-impact aerobics; 10 a.m., dime bingo; noon, 500 cards; and 5 p.m., bingo, Fridays.

The center accepts electronics for recycling from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays. Laptops, toner cartridges, inkjet cartridges, cell phones and small electronics are accepted.

Those 55 and older are invited to join center staff and volunteers for daily activities.

Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.
