Legion auxiliary holds meeting

WEIRTON – The American Legion Post 10 Auxiliary met July 21 at the post hall on Pennsylvania Avenue.

President Shirley Brecht called the meeting to order and presided over the business session. Chaplain Pat Folden gave the invocation, and Brecht led members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and American Legion Auxiliary Constitution preamble.

Secretary Marcy Spano called roll and read the June meeting minutes, which were approved as read. Treasurer Gloria Jerrel gave the financial report, which was approved and filed for audit.

Membership Chair Edith Truax hasn’t had a response from a series of letters sent out, and any members who may be ill are asked to inform Chaplain Pat Folden. Jerrel contacted the auxiliary’s sponsored Rhododendron Girls State member for an update.

An officers’ meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the post. The fall conference will be discussed.

Brecht thanked members for their assistance with the city Fourth of July parade. Secretary Marcy Spano sent Paul Orr a thank-you card for the loan of his car to the auxiliary for the parade.

The auxiliary’s books will be audited in August.

The legion and auxiliary picnic will be held Aug. 10. Auxiliary members are asked to bring desserts. There will be drawings and door prizes.

Members were asked to send cards to, call and visit Marine veteran Jeremiah Arbogast, who is struggling with medical issues. For information on contacting Arbogast, speak to an auxiliary member.

Clara Robinson won the 50/50 drawing. Shirley Brecht and Wanda Perrone will serve refreshments at the August meeting.

The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at the legion hall.
