Local students to receive scholarships

WHEELING – The Italian Festival Foundation Scholarship Committee will present awards to the 2014 foundation scholarship recipients at 6:30 p.m. July 27 at the Heritage Port Stage, including students from Brooke, Weir and Madonna high schools.

Local scholarship winners include: Morgan Goff, Weir; Alisandra Welch, Madonna, Cassidy Bland and Emily Hone, Brooke; Melanie Sich, Steubenville Catholic Central; and Nico Treglia, Indian Creek.

Committee Chair Nancy Ducci will introduce the recipients, and committee members from each participating county, including Hancock, Brooke, Jefferson, Ohio, Belmont and Marshall counties, will present the recipients with a commemorative plaque.

The remaining recipients are: William Salvatori, Wheeling Park; Elizabeth Padden, Wheeling Central Catholic; Manda Robey, Martins Ferry; Amy Mehlman, Bellaire; Collin Stipetich, John Marshall; Marley Keller, Bishop Donahue; Kiana Duncan, Shadyside; and David Holden, West Virginia Northern Community College.

The Italian Festival Foundation has awarded more than $265,000 in scholarships since its inception.

The 32nd annual Italian Festival is scheduled to be held at Wheeling’s Heritage Port in downtown July 26-27 and 29.
