Marine Club holds meeting

WEIRTON – The Tri-State Marine Corps Club met July 14 at the Serbian American Cultural Center on Colliers Way.

Commandant Edgile Covey called the meeting to ordered, followed by the posting of the colors, prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Thirty-four members were present.

Members discussed the club’s participation in the Follansbee Community Day parade and the positive comments from parade observers.

The club picnic will be held Aug. 3 at the New Cumberland Fireman’s Field. It will include children’s games, drawings, a white elephant sale and food and beverages.

Ralph Gaffoli announced the Marine reunion at Yemassee, S.C., Oct. 17. Marine boots heading for Parris Island would disembark trains at Yemassee, where this would be their last moments of freedom for 13 weeks.

Jim Thompson announced the Scio, Ohio, Veterans of Foreign Wars are holding an auto show at 11 a.m. Aug. 16. The club will have members present with displays inform Marines and Marine veterans in Harrison County about the club and solicit new members.

Members were reminded there is a free breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturdays at Weirton Ponderosa. All club members are welcome.

The annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball will be held at 5 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Serbian American Cultural Center. Advertising space is available in the ball program; to purchase an ad, call Dan Lyons at (304) 564-3186.
