The Hancock County Federation of Democratic Women presented the 13th annual $500 scholarship to Alisandra Welch of Weirton, a 2014 Madonna High School graduate who plans to attend Carnegie Mellon University and study engineering. The scholarship is open to women who have been a county resident for six months or more, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and are enrolling full-time at an accredited secondary school. Applicants also had to submit a 500-word essay. Welch, left, accepted the scholarship from Club President Donna Gialluco. The federation welcomes new members.
