Trinity program accepting new enrollments

The Trinity Breast and Cervical Grant Program is now enrolling new women for pap smears and mammograms.

Women must be between the ages of 40 and 64, not have any insurance and be at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.

Individuals with questions about enrolling for services are encouraged to call (800) 921-5151.

The Trinity Breast and Cervical Cancer Grant Program is part of the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. Money for the program is allocated to the Ohio Department of Health by the Center for Disease Control. The program is in place in every county throughout Ohio.

Since 1994, Trinity’s BCCP has been the lead agency for Belmont, Carroll, Coshocton, Harrison, Holmes, Jefferson and Tuscarawas counties, according to Barb Steitz, case coordinator.

“In more recent years, we have expanded our services to Columbiana and Mahoning counties,” Steitz said.

Trinity’s BCCP provides pap smears, pelvic exams and clinical breast exams for women 40 and over, and pap smears, pelvic exams, clinical breast exams and mammograms for women age 50 and over who meet the following criteria:

They are Ohio residents;

Their income must be equal to or lower than 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines; and

They must be uninsured.

Trinity’s BCCP, under the direction of Lynn Barbe, director of oncology services at Teramana Cancer Center, employs two full-time nurse case coordinators. They are Steitz and Kathy Tharp, who provide case management from the time of enrollment through screening and any approved diagnostic or treatment services required.

“We work with providers in all nine counties so that the women are able to have their services close to home,” Steitz explained.
