New Cumberland Lions Club discuss upcoming events

NEW CUMBERLAND — First Vice President Don Deemer presided over the Sept. 27 New Cumberland Lions Club meeting in President Barb Blackwell’s absence.

Lion Don Greathouse gave the invocation and Lion Ed Fields lead members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Sept. 13 meeting minutes were read, and the Jack Harris Memorial Walk-a-thon date correct to Nov. 5. Treasurer Jim Wells read the financial report, which was filed for audit.

Lion Sherri Alford announced the penny auction fundraiser will be held Oct. 29 at the Hancock County Senior Center.

The doors open at 4 p.m., and the auction begins at 5 p.m. Donations may be dropped off by noon the day of the event at the senior center. The club will ask the New Cumberland United Methodist Youth Group to volunteer. Concessions will be available, and Lions were asked to donate desserts. Alford explained the auction signs and donation letters that were distributed to the Lions. For additional information, call Alford at (330) 716-1357.

Important dates include: Oct. 15, Adopt-A-Highway cleanup; Oct. 22, pulled pork fundraiser; Oct. 25, Governor’s Night; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3, eye screening at the senior center; and Nov. 5, Jack Harris Walk-a-thon.

Lion Rick Tinsky spoke about the Christian-based “Celebrate Recovery” program for those suffering from addiction and psychological issues and is held Thursdays at New Cumberland Christian Church.

A light meal will be served at 5:15 p.m., and the program begins at 6 p.m.

Lion Joe Ghenne introduced his son-in-law, Andrew Kifer, as a guest and potential new member.

Lion Dick Blackwell made a motion, seconded by Lion Joe Ghenne, to adjourn the meeting.

The next regular Lion’s Club meeting will be held Oct. 11.
