Tips on cooking, grocery shopping being offered

WELLSBURG — The West Virginia University Extension Service will be offering a free eight-week program of cooking classes aimed at helping anyone with a tight budget to plan and prepare nutritious, hearty and affordable meals.

The class will be taught by Molly Poffenberger, adult health education instructor for the extension service, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. each Monday from Oct. 3 to Nov. 21 at the Brooke County Public Library.

Participants will learn how to make healthy lifestyle choices, keep food safe, save money on food, cook healthy meals and be more physically active. They will also at every lesson have the opportunity to taste new recipes, receive fun giveaways and recipe cards and receive a graduation certificate and cookbook upon completion of the lessons.

Those who attend six of the eight classes will be entered into a drawing for a crock pot.

Those interested in participating should register by calling (304) 737-1551.
