VFW auxiliary discusses upcoming events

WEIRTON — The Veterans of Foreign Wars 2716 Auxiliary met Sept. 8, with President Gloria Jerrel calling the meeting to order.

The post will be sponsoring several events, including a Sept. 29 flea market, an Oct. 29 Night at the Races and a Nov. 12 pot roast dinner. Jerrel asked auxiliary members to assist.

The auxiliary will have a table at the flea market, and vendors may purchase tables for $10.

Tickets for the Night at the Races are $20 per person and include dinner and drinks.

Tickets for the pot roast dinner are $8 per person.

Members were told that the annual donations toward Veterans Affairs hospitals, Grace Minnix Scholarship Fund and the National Home for Children have been made. The auxiliary reimbursed an active member’s national convention registration.

The treasurer’s books will be audited at 1 p.m. Oct. 12.

Jerrel distributed Christmas stockings to members, who will fill them for Boatsie’s Boxes. Boatsie’s Boxes will send them to deployed soldiers. Members were asked to return the stockings at the next meeting, but no later than Nov. 2.

Jerrel adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13.
