WELLSBURG — High school football rivalry will serve a greater cause at 7:30 p.m. Friday as the Weir High School Red Riders face off with the Brooke High School Bruins at Brooke Memorial Stadium located on Bruin Drive.

Fans attending the game are asked to bring a donation of nonperishable food items to feed the hungry. Community Bread Basket volunteers will be collecting at the field.

Program Administrator Tara Sheperd said the need for food has increased approximately 12 percent over last year, adding it is good to see local schools getting involved in charitable projects because it builds student leaders.

Jim Pauchnik, Bread Basket Board of Directors member, said those served by the charity are equally divided between Brooke and Hancock counties. Volunteer Peggy Makricostas thanked Amy Serevicz of the Brooke Boosters and Weir Athletic Director Mike DelRe for supporting the fundraiser.

The Bread Basket is located at 3501 West St., Weirton. To make a donation or become a volunteer, call (304) 748-7595.
