A Child’s Place Court-Appointed Special Advocates Ltd.
A Child’s Place Court-Appointed Special Advocate Ltd. is a nonprofit organization operating in Brooke and Hancock counties, W.Va., and Jefferson County, Ohio, by supporting and promoting court-appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children so that they can thrive in safe, permanent homes.
A Court-Appointed Special Advocate is a volunteer appointed by the court to advocate for the best interests of a child who has been abused or neglected.
To do this, the CASA must research the facts of the case, help develop a family plan, collaborate with all parties on the case, and report to the court the current status of the family’s progression. A Child’s Place CASA is in need of CASA volunteers today. They served 251 children in 2016 in the three counties.
Involvement in the CASA program provides an opportunity to have a potential impact on the quality of a child’s life; to enhance written and oral communication skills, as well as collaboration skills; to gain an understanding of the State of West Virginia and the State of Ohio abuse and neglect proceedings and child welfare systems; and to increase awareness of child abuse and neglect.
CASA is looking for volunteers today to start training in January. The application is on the website at childsplacecasa.com/volunteer.
For information, call (304) 737-4444.
A Child’s Place appreciates being able to participate in the Weirton Chamber of Commerce on a regular basis. Being a chamber member gives them the opportunity to collaborate with area businesses on a daily basis to benefit the children they serve.
