Community Bread Basket

The Community Bread Basket is a nonprofit, Christian-based organization working to meet basic needs of impoverished residents in Brooke and Hancock counties.

Volunteers distribute healthy foods and a message of hope and love from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Fridays. A utility assistance program helps needy families keep lights on and homes warm. The Gabriel Room program provides free clothing and diapers for children. Other projects include Easter Baskets for children 10 and under and specialized food baskets at Christmas and Thanksgiving.

These programs are made possible through grants and donations from local churches, businesses and individuals in the community.

The Community Bread Basket is seeking donations from local businesses for a picnic-themed basket for a drawing during the Weirton Renaissance Festival. Items sought include paper goods, cutlery, sparklers, table cloths, books, gift cards, children’s toys and picnic-related foods. Any donation of money or in-kind will be recognized. All proceeds will benefit the Bread Basket.

Any nonperishable food items, diapers or gently used clothing be can dropped off from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday at our facility the office located at 3501 West St. Monetary donations can be made on the group’s Go Fund Me page at gofundme.com/communitybread or mailed to PO Box 154, Weirton, WV 26062.

For information about the assistance programs or volunteering, call (304) 748-7595 or “like” their Facebook by searching “Community Breadbasket Inc.”

The Community Bread Basket appreciates the Weirton Chamber of Commerce for providing an opportunity to collaborate with area businesses in order to serve our community.
