Point Pleasant Ladies Aide meets

NEW CUMBERLAND — President Carolyn Allison called the March 8 Point Pleasant Ladies Aide meeting to order, welcomed members and lit the Memory Candle for those unable to attend.

Ella Louise Herron was welcomed back to the group.

A white candle was lit in memory of member Betty Gibson. Lisa Subrick read the poem “After Glow,” Allison read “Poem of Life,” and Linda Marsh offered a prayer.

Allison revealed the 2017 theme, “Quilted Together.” Members will be “quilting” the topics of comfort, friendship and working together.

Subrick read the first devotional selection, “The Comfort of God’s Love.” Nancy Conkle and Allison each showed a quilt that had a special meaning to them. Conkle’s quilt was handmade by her aunt and given to her as a wedding present. Allison shared a quilt made by her great-grandmother, Amanda Jane Glass, and given to her by her cousin of the same name.

Secretary Nancy Conkle read the November minutes, and Treasurer Carla Fryer presented the financial report. The “Payday for the Aide” dime collection total was $1,049.

Members agreed to assist those impacted by the flood damage in southern West Virginia by donating to the Methodist Churches of West Virginia’s “Restoring Hope With Your Help” project. Members participated in an “Act of Kindness.

Program Chair Nancy Wright and Allison presented “Let’s Take a Look,” outlining the programs for each month.

Marsh offered prayer for the concerns of the group.

The fellowship room was decorated with purple lilacs in blue quart jars surrounded by quilting and sewing items and thimbles. Hosts Allison, Conkle, Fryer and Subrick served lunch.

The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 12 at the Point Pleasant Methodist Church. Local women are welcome to attend.
