Poster contest winners named
The Weirton-Wellsburg Chapter of Credit Unions challenged local fifth graders to make anti-bullying posters in March.
Winners were chosen based on the composition of their poster, and the winning pupils were invited to the April 12 chapter meeting, where they received a certificate of recognition and a cash prize.
“This is such a hot topic and it affects all school children and their parents,” Chapter President Janet Stagani said. “We are hoping this poster contest raises awareness in the schools and gives teachers and parents the opportunity to talk to the children about the dangers of bullying. We had so many outstanding posters, it was very difficult to pick winners.”
Winners included: Alaina Bilby, Mikayla Childers and Owen Petrella, Follansbee Middle School; Tessa Kefer, Oak Glen Middle School; Lindsey Wheat, St. Joseph the Worker School; Laynie McCarthy, Mia Pietranton and Ella Wingett, St. Paul Catholic School; Juliaunna Campbell, Weir Middle School; and Ava Estrada, Wellsburg Middle School.
The Weirton-Wellsburg Chapter consists of Eagle Can Employees Federal Credit Union, First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union, Hancock School Employees Federal Credit Union, Strip Steel Community Federal Credit Union and Tin Mill Employees Federal Credit Union.
