New Manchester school garden

New Manchester Elementary School was awarded a Whole Kids Foundation Grant to create a school garden in April. The school received assistance from Rita Hawkins from the Brooke-Hancock Resource Network. The school has begun preliminary work with the assistance of Shelly Anderson, West Virginia University Extension Office, Bud Simmons, Master Gardener; Daniel Mayfield and Jessica Davis, WVU Extension interns; and volunteers Addison Sayre and Felicity Nolder. The school’s third-graders will begin growing crops this fall, incorporating science, math, health and reading lessons. — Contributed
