Tri-State Young Marines welcome guest speaker

The Tri-State Young Marines welcomed Latrisha Whitelatch, senior project coordinator of the Northern Panhandle Prevention Consortium/Youth Services System Inc. in Wheeling. Whitelach provided examples of how alcohol marketing appeals to young people, explained the realities of alcohol use and discussed strategies to avoid underage drinking. The Tri-State Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, ages 8 through 18 or completion of high school. The Young Marines promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles and take part in activities, including veteran community service projects, parades, overnight encampments, team-building activities and field trips to historical sites. Members receive a minimum of three hours of drug or alcohol awareness training each quarter. The unit meets on Tuesday nights at the Weirton Veterans of the Foreign Wars.
