Weirton Elks award scholarships

WEIRTON — The Weirton Elks Lodge 1801 held their Youth Awards Banquet May 17 to honor and present scholarships, certificates and plaques to the top senior and junior teens of the year.

William Verelst Jr., Elks Northern District vice president, acknowledged the academic, leadership and community service of 23 students from Oak Glen High and Middle schools, Brooke High School and Burgettstown High and Middle school in his welcome and opening remarks.

Students recognized and honored were:

¯ Taylor Pannett of Brooke was awarded two scholarships, the Elks Legacy State Scholarship and the Weirton Elks 1801 Scholarship. Pannett is also co-valedictorian.

¯ Jayson W. Chappell of Oak Glen also was awarded two scholarships. Those being the Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship and Weirton Elks 1801 Scholarship.

¯ Jordan Palmer of Burgettstown was awarded the Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship.

¯ Dante Marcucci of Burgettstown was awarded the Deborah Verelst Memorial Scholarship.

¯ The Senior Teens of the Year were Jayson W. Chappell of Oak Glen and Alena Quinque of Burgettstown.

The Junior Teens of the Year were Colton Douglas White and Sydney Elise Martinez, both of Oak Glen Middle School.

Senior Teens honored as the male and female Teens of the Month were:

¯ September, Austin Dean Grant of Oak Glen.

¯ October, Jayson W. Chappell of Oak Glen and Jordan Palmer of Burgettstown.

¯ January, Emma Rose Fleeman of Burgettstown.

¯ February, Madison Brooke Boros of Burgettstown.

¯ March, Alena Quinque of Burgettstown.

Junior Teens honored were:

¯ September, Ethan Hurl of Oak Glen Middle and Nicole Lynn Gearhart of Burgettstown High.

¯ October, Nicholas P. Rawson of Oak Glen Middle and Kailey Alexa Karas of Burgettstown High.

¯ November, Colton Douglas Whyte and Sydney Elise Martinez, both Oak Glen Middle.

¯ December, Jacob Clark and Rory Saige McNutt, both of Oak Glen Middle.

¯ January, Lexi Elaine Rheinhardt of Oak Glen Middle.

¯ February, Turner J. Lehman of Burgettstown Middle and Hailee Marie Stevens of Oak Glen Middle.
