CADIZ COUNTRY CLUB WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
CADIZ — Nancy Beckert was hostess for the Play of the Day of the Cadiz Country Club Women’s Golf Association held May 10. The game played was the lowest score on the back nine holes.
Winners were Glenda Sensel, first place, and Peg Buchanan, second place. Tied for low putts were Bonnie Beetham and Beckert.
Birdies were made by Brenda Hartley on hole No. 3 and Beetham on hole No. 12. Several chip-ins were made, including Hartley on hole No. 3, Beckert on hole No. 8, Beetham on hole No. 12 and Sensel on hole No. 17.
The hostess for Wednesday will be Sensel.
STEUBENVILLE COUNTRY CLUB WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION
STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville Country Club Women’s Golf Association launched its 2017 golf season May 10 with a continental breakfast and business meeting followed by 18 holes of golf.
Chairman Pam DiDomenico presided for the meeting and distributed the 2017 golf books, which outline the weekly events and committee appointments for the season. Officers’ reports were given by Theresa Metcalf, secretary, and Dianna Adams, treasurer. Charlene Freshwater was welcomed back as a member of the association.
Committee chairmen for the golf season are YangJa Koh, ringers and birdies and hole in one; Adams, Kim Criss and Shelle Pentes, awards; Metcalf, publicity; Marilyn Kenny and Adams, East Central; Kenny, Adams and Metcalf, Rally for a Cure; John Denholm and Kim Criss, Ryder Cup; DiDomenico and Pentes, nominating committee; Kenny and John Denholm, rules; and Denholm, junior golf.
The President’s Cup Tournament is scheduled for the last two Wednesdays in May and the first two Wednesdays in June. The best three out of four net scores will determine the winner of the event.
The club championship will be played Aug. 9 and Aug. 16.
The annual Rally for a Cure Tournament to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will be held July 12, with Kenny, Metcalf and Adams in charge.
The women golfers once again will be assisting with the closest to the pin competition for the Pabian Tournament and the Firecracker Tournament held by the men golfers. DiDomenico and Metcalf will work these events.
The opening day golf game was Blind Partners where net scores were combined to determine the winners. Kenny and DiDomenico were the winning twosome. DiDomenico recorded a birdie on the fifth hole and also won low putts for the day with 30 putts. There were no chip-ins, so the money cup will carry over this week.
Wednesday’s event for the 18-hole group is Skills Day with Kenny and Adams as hostesses. Golfers are asked to report at 8:30 a.m. for a 9 a.m. start.
Dotty Tegano is the chairman for the nine-hole golfers, who will tee off at 9:30 a.m. this week.
