Cadiz church to begin

200th anniversary celebration

CADIZ — The first of five series celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz begins Sunday at 7 p.m. as the founding of the church and its first pastor, the Rev. John Rea, are celebrated.

The Rev. Jack Visser will present a brief history of Presbyterianism at the time the congregation began, and Dr. Scott Pendleton will portray Rea, using words from the reverend’s own sermons and writings.

The evening will conclude with a worship service with communion in the style of early 1800s Presbyterianism.

All the events are free and open to the public.

Prayer breakfast June 10

at Shiloh Apostolic

WEIRTON — The ushers of Shiloh Apostolic Faith Church, 3000 Weir Ave., will sponsor a prayer breakfast beginning at 9:30 a.m. on June 10. The featured speaker will be Rebecca “Tish” Turner.

The menu will consist of waffles/chicken, bacon, sausage, eggs, grits, fruit and juices.

Tickets can be purchased from any usher for $10 for adults and $5 for children age 10 and younger or at the door for an additional $2.

Pentecost Sunday service

planned at Calvary Church

STEUBENVILLE — Calvary Church at 255 N. Fifth St., Steubenville, welcomes the public to its Pentecost Sunday celebration with a special service beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday.

“There will be many pastors and their congregations convening at Calvary for this holy convocation,” notes Pastor John Kotsanos. “The spirit-filled worship will be led by the Calvary Worship and Praise Team as well as special music and song from other churches,” he said.

Bishop Gerald Loyd, senior pastor of Fountain of Life Church in Pittsburgh, will deliver the message.

“We invite you to come to Calvary to experience the sights and sounds of Pentecost as we enjoy a second wave of Pentecost being poured upon this Upper Ohio Valley,” Kotsanos said. “Let us gather together with excitement, enthusiasm and great expectations.”

Follansbee area churches’

free event offers music, food

FOLLANSBEE — Several Follansbee area churches have again teamed to hold the second Praise in the Park, a free event with Christian music, food and activities for children to be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 10 at Follansbee Park.

The event will feature a newly formed community choir under the direction of Roy James and praise and worship bands from Open Door Baptist Church, Follansbee Christian Assembly and the Follansbee Church of Christ. Area youth will also be performing a skit.

City officials have volunteered to serve hot dogs and other refreshments.

Attendees should bring chairs or blankets.

In addition to three churches above, the event is a collaboration of Follansbee United Methodist, St. Anthony’s Catholic, Follansbee Presbyterian and Calvary Baptist churches.

Colliers UMC to hold

yard sale, breakfast June 10

COLLIERS — Colliers United Methodist Church will hold a free community breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. June 10, with a fundraising yard sale to follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A variety of household items as well as lunch items will be sold.

Salvation Army has

applications for camp

STEUBENVILLE — The Salvation Army of Steubenville is conducting registration for area children ages 6-12 interested in participating in Camp NEOSA, an acronym for Northeast Ohio Salvation Army.

The camp, located outside Carrollton, will be held July 21-26. There are no income eligibility requirements.

There are 10 free slots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are available at the Salvation Army located at 332 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, and can be picked up from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Questions can be directed to (740) 282-5121.

July 7 is the deadline for applications to be returned.

Youth day celebrations at

Weirton, Wheeling locations

Greater Love International Outreach Worship Center will hold a youth day at 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. June 11 at Bethlehem Temple located at 330 Main St., Wheeling, and at 12:30 p.m. June 11 at Shiloh Apostolic Faith Assembly located at 3000 Weir Ave., Weirton.

The Rev. Denzeil Tubbs, Ohio District Council Young People of Pentecostal Assemblies of the World vice president, will be the guest speaker. Hayden Jackson of Springfield, Ohio, a Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Youth Talent Competition winner, will be the musical guest.

Revival services planned

at Morning Star Baptist

WEIRTON — Morning Star Baptist Church, 3124 Weir Ave., Weirton, will host a series of revival services beginning at 7 p.m. June 13-15.

“We Would See Jesus” will be the theme of the revival with the following pastors participating: June 13, Pastor Benjamin Calvert of Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church, Steubenville; June 14, Rudy McAllister, pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Weirton; and June 15, the Rev. Jermaine Moore, pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Steubenville.

Willie L. Nevels is host pastor.

Strawberry festival today at Olde St. John’s Episcopal

COLLIERS — Olde St. John’s Episcopal Church will hold its annual strawberry festival, with strawberry shortcakes and other food and an indoor yard sale, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

In addition to large strawberry shortcakes, hot dogs and tacos in a bag will be sold.

There also will be a variety of rummage items, used books and other household goods for sale.

The church is at the intersection of Eldersville and St. John’s roads.
