WEIRTON — The Point Pleasant Ladies Aide met June 14 with 26 members attending the gathering in the fellowship hall decorated to celebrate everyone’s birthday.

President Carolyn Allison gave each member a “Birthday Blessing” poem. Special recognition and gifts were presented to Marian Caine, Betty Glenn, Ella Louise Herron, Velva Jones, Roni Poling and Pat Silbaugh.

Following the blessing by Linda Marsh, refreshments that included a birthday cake and ice cream were served by hostesses Patty Bruce, Terry DeLong, Ruth Fuller and Eileen Snyder.

Olivia Jones of Fort Myers, Fla., granddaughter of member Velva Jones, was a guest.

Vice President Lisa Subrick began the business part of the meeting by reading a devotion titled “The Comfort of God’s Strength.” Reports were given by Secretary Nancy Conkle and Treasurer Carla Fryer.

Nancy Wright, scholarship chairman, announced that Oak Glen High School senior Allison Click, daughter of Jeff and Jennifer Click of New Cumberland, was awarded the 2017 Point Pleasant Ladies Aide Scholarship. Her high school activities included basketball, cross country, Key Club, National Honor Society and Culture Club. She has been a volunteer at the First Christian Church nursery, pre-kindergarten classes and its Vacation Bible School and at the Hancock County Animal Shelter. She plans to attend Fairmont State University and pursue degrees in elementary and special education.

Betty Glenn reported on cards sent since the May meeting. The group agreed to participate in the New Cumberland River Fest in September with the “All Sports” theme containers.

Members shared concerns and joys, which were followed with prayer led by Marsh.

Theme baskets brought by members were sold to the highest bidders in the “Fun Time” auction. Nancy Wright served as auctioneer and was assisted by Joyce Beatty.

The Aug. 9 picnic meeting will be held at Allison’s home.
