Special Olympians earn medals, ribbons in Brooke County contest

WELLSBURG — Brooke County Special Olympics athletes returned from the West Virginia Special Olympics Basketball Tournament with many medals and ribbons.

The Brooke basketball team placed third in its division, earning bronze medals. Coached by Cathy and Sara Furioli, the team includes Danny Adams, Jimmy Hunter, Mark Pollock, Matt Elcesser, A.J. Smith, Ronnie Taylor, Brandon Klages and Marie Kosut.

Athletes also were judged on individual skills, taking shots from various areas of the court, dribbling with control and passing, bouncing and catching. They were divided into divisions according to their ages and abilities.

In that competition Edward Kosut and Trevor Hruschak received gold medals, Matteo Filippelli received a silver medal, Andrew Rager received a bronze and Heather Ambrose, a fourth-place ribbon.

The individual skills athletes were coached by Judy Ambrose.
