Ohio Valley Hospital/Trinity School of Nursing Alumni Association reunion Aug. 19

STEUBENVILLE — The Ohio Valley Hospital/Trinity School of Nursing Alumni Association is planning its second reunion, which will be held Aug. 19 at the Prime Time Senior Center located at 300 Lovers Lane.

The keynote speaker, according to Blanche Williams, association president, will be Jefferson County Common Pleas Court Judge Michelle Miller, who received her nursing degree from the Ohio Valley School of Nursing in 1984 and worked as a nurse for 17 years. She then went on to receive her undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati and her juris doctorate degree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University.

She was elected a Jefferson County Common Pleas Court judge on Nov. 4, 2014, becoming Jefferson County first female judge.

The last nursing alumni association reunion was held five years ago and was so well received “that we wanted, once again, to repeat time for reminiscing and renewing old acquaintances,” Williams said.

The cost per person is $40, and the schedule for the evening is: 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., registration, social time, hors d’eouvres; 6 p.m., welcome and introductions; 6:15 p.m., dinner; 7:30 p.m., program; and visiting afterward.

Pictures will be taken of all the attendees, and a directory will be made and mailed. Attendees have the option to purchase the directory for an additional $12. The reservation deadline is July 30. Checks can be made payable to OVH/Trinity Alumni Association and mailed to Char Biacco, 2932 Linda Way, Steubenville OH 43952.

With the graduation of 21 new nurses in July, there will be 2,337 nurses who have completed the nursing program at OVH and Trinity School of Nursing. “That is a remarkable record, and our alumni honors this by awarding two scholarships each year.”

Charity Hospice receives

2017 Hospice Honors

WINTERSVILLE — Charity Hospice has received “Hospice Honors,” a “compilation of hospices providing the best patient and caregiver experience.”

Established by Deyta Analytics, a division of HealthCareFirst, the annual review recognizes hospices that continuously provide the highest level of quality as measured from the caregivers’ point of view.

Award criteria was based on Hospice CAHPS (Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems) survey results for an evaluation period from October 2015 through September 2016.

Hospice Honors recipients were unveiled recently on the opening day of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization Management and Leadership Conference held in Washington, D.C. Dr. Mary Mihalyo, Charity Hospice board member, accepted the award on behalf of Charity Hospice.

The Hospice Honors program was created to acknowledge hospices that are being proactive with their survey results by leveraging their data to improve the patient and caregiver experience and are demonstrating quality to patients and referral partners, according to officials.

Cathy Cich, Charity Hospice founder and CEO, said, “I am so proud of our staff and the care they provide to our patients and families. I can truly say that it has always been about the patient and family to us. This award means so much to us because this is what we try to achieve.”
