Weirton Woman’s Club holds opening meeting of club year

WEIRTON — The Weirton Woman’s Club held its opening meeting at Undo’s with Diana Durst presiding.

Inspiration was given by Teresa Conley followed by opening exercises.

Members adjourned for a buffet dinner followed by entertainment by representatives of Striplight Theatre.

The meeting resumed with the secretary’s and treasurer’s reports. Department heads announced their September meetings.

Molly Mossor reported on the July Teddy Bear Tea for children held at the Mary H. Weir Public Library and attended by 106 children. Mossor also announced the continuing program for donating health snacks to the Weirton Elementary School’s backpack weekend program.

Domestic Violence Chair Carla Glover will be collecting pajamas for the shelter at the October meeting.

International Chair Dawn Neeley reported that $587 was earned for the Bead for Life Project. African crafted jewelry was sold throughout the year at meetings.

Durst reported on the summer conference in Charleston. The March for Babies raised $3,618.

Dates to remember include executive board, Thursday, and general club meeting, Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. The meeting will be a membership drive. Members were to submit names of prospective members to attend. They will receive invitations.
